MR-Guided Biopsies of the Prostate in Supine Patient Position

The article shows that targeted biopsies of the prostate under direct MRI-guidance are a reasonable complement to ultrasound biopsy techniques. The presented cases show that exact targeting of the most suspicious portion of a tumor is crucial for correct classification and consequently best therapy decisions. Especially in case of relatively small lesions, direct MR-guidance has clear advantages over fusion techniques. [...]

Pelvic schwannoma

Clinical History: 49-year old woman with an asymptomatic pelvic mass for 10 years (an incidental finding on routine physical examination)   Diagnosis: Pelvic schwannoma   MR Technique: Pelvic MR imaging was performed on a 3T system (Skyra, Siemens). (A) Coronal T2-weighted TIRM (TR/TE 4000/78ms), (B) sagittal T2-weighted TIRM (TR/TE 4000/70), (C) axial T1-weighted TSE […] [...]

Prostatic sarcoma

Clinical History: 25-year old man with dysuria for 3 weeks   Diagnosis: Prostatic sarcoma   MR Technique: Prostatic imaging was performed on a 3T MR system. (A) Sagittal T2-weighted TSE (TR/TE 7500/104ms), (B) coronal T2-weighted TSE (TR/TE 7354/104ms), and (C) axial T2-weighted TSE (TR/TE 7440/101) were acquired prior to the administration […] [...]

Cervical fibroid

This is a 51-year-old postmenopausal female with lower abdominal and pelvic pain for a few weeks. The ultrasound showed revealed a cervical lesion, suspicious for a cervical mass versus fibroid. [...]

Endometrioma

65 year old woman with a calcified left adnexal lesion incidentally noted on a CT done to evaluate pyelonephritis. A subsequent transvaginal ultrasound showed an isoechoic left adnexal mass. MRI was obtained for further evaluation of the left adnexal mass. [...]

Urethral diverticulum

46 year old female with complaints of dysuria and dyspareunia. Clinical consideration included a possible urethrocele. On physical examination no urethrocele was seen or palpated. Some tenderness was present in the urethra near the bladder neck. No purulent fluid was expressed from urethra. Cystoscopy was not diagnostic. CT scan of abdomen and pelvis showed a possible urethral diverticulum. Pathology showed urethral diverticulum with granulation tissue associated with acute and chronic inflammation. [...]

Prostate carcinoma

This is a 70 yr old man who presented with change in his PSA levels. It was 4.3 in 2007 and 7.13 in 2010. He was asymptomatic. A biopsy showed a Gleason score of 9 on the right and prostate intraepithelial neoplasia on the left. Both bone scan and CT did not show metastasis. [...]

Contrast Enhanced MRA of a Pelvic Arteriovenous Malformation

This 43-year-old woman presented to the angiography department three years ago with pain in the lower abdomen. She underwent resection of an intrauterine fibroma in 1997 and a C-section in 2002. Large FOV Imaging at 3T with a 32-Channel Body Array Coil

This article shows the benefits of a 32-channel body coil for large field-of-view imaging in the abdomen and pelvis, including MR Angiography. The evolution of parallel imaging techniques has been very rapid, with realization of their full potential requiring development and utilization of MR systems with up to 32 receiver channels. [...]

Assessment of Tumor Extension and Improved Localization for Planning and Nerve Sparing Radical Prostatectomy

The potential of state-of-the-art MRI at 3 T, in prostate imaging without the use of an endorectal coil, is discussed in this article. Two clinical cases are presented, with MRI in each instance able to improve both therapy planning and surgical outcome. [...]
