Clinical History:
This 46-year-old woman presented clinically with a complaint of gradual hearing impairment in the right ear for three years. Physical examination revealed the right parotid gland region to be swollen, with a medium-hard palpable mass.
Diagnosis:
Fibroepithelial papilloma
MR Technique:
MR images were acquired on a 1.5 T MR unit using a dedicated 8-channel coil. (A) Axial pre-contrast spin echo T1-weighted (TR/TE 400/14.2ms, 256×160 matrix ) and (B) axial and (C) coronal fast spin echo fat-suppressed T2-weighted (TR/TE 3900/104ms) scans were used, which were followed by (D) axial post contrast fast spin echo fat-suppressed T1-weighted (TR/TE 520/8.8ms) scans.
Imaging Findings:
A large irregular soft tissue mass is noted in the right mastoid region, with lobulated edges and clearly demarcated. Surrounding normal soft tissues are compressed and the right internal carotid artery is partially encased. Because of infiltration by the lesion, the right mastoid, petrous and occipital bones were all involved. The cervical spinal cord was compressed to the left. On the post contrast scan, the mass enhances homogenously.
