Clinical History:
66 yr old woman with right ankle pain.

Haglund’s syndrome

MR Technique:
3T scanner (Siemens Verio) using foot and ankle coil. Image 1: Axial T2 turbo spin echo (TR/TE 5660/100 ms, slice thickness 4 mm, scan time 2 min 22 sec); Image 2: Sagittal STIR (TI 220 ms, TR/TE 6770/32 ms, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 2 min 29 sec) Image 3: Sagittal T1 turbo spin echo (TR/TE 700/20 ms, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 4 min 4 sec).

Imaging Findings:
Distal Achilles partial thickness tear and retrocalcaneal and retro-Achilles bursitis are compatible with Haglund’s syndrome. Significant bone edema is present in the posterior aspect of the calcaneus including the calcaneal tuberosity. Diffuse soft tissue swelling around the ankle joint extending into the dorsum of the foot.
