Intermuscular Lipoma

Clinical History: 46 year old woman with a progressively enlarging right thigh mass

Diagnosis: Intermuscular lipoma of the anterior right thigh

MR Technique:

Imaging of the right thigh was performed on a 3T MR system (Skyra, Siemens). (A) Axial T1-weighted TSE (TR/TE 700/11ms) and (B, C) axial T2-weighted TSE water/fat-images obtained with the Dixon fat suppression technique (TR/TE 2600/90ms) were acquired along with (D) coronal STIR images (TR/TE 3000/38, TI 230). A contrast-enhanced axial T1-weighted image was also performed utilizing the Dixon technique for fat suppression (E).

Imaging Findings:

A large, well-circumscribed mass is located within the intermuscular space between the rectus femoris, vastus intermedius, and vastus lateralis muscles of the right thigh. MRI signal intensity is identical to subcutaneous fat. There is no enhancement evident on CE-MRI images.
