Low Grade Astrocytoma

Clinical History:
78 year old woman with symptoms of memory loss and dizziness for the past 6 months. She also has chronic headaches, confusion and ataxia.

Diagnosis:
Low grade astrocytoma

MR Technique:
3T (Siemens Verio) using head coil: Image 1: Axial T1 (TR/TE 250/2.5 ms, slice thickness 4 mm, scan time 2 min 10 sec); Image 2 : Axial T2 (TR/TE 6000/96 ms, slice thickness 4 mm, scan time 1 min 26 sec); Image 3: Axial FLAIR (TI 2500, TR/TE 9000/133 ms, slice thickness 4 mm, scan time 4 min 32 sec); Image 4: Axial T1 after injection of 0.1 mmol/kg of gadolinium chelate (TR/TE 250/2.5 ms, slice thickness 4 mm, scan time 2 min 10 sec).

Imaging Findings:
Images show an intra-axial lesion along the medial portion of the right frontal lobe measuring 2.9 x 2.4 x 2.3 cm. The lesion is hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on T2 and FLAIR. There is no associated vasogenic edema, and no abnormal contrast enhancement.
