Melanoma with brain metastases

Clinical History:
A 77 year-old male with history of melanoma.

Diagnosis:
Melanoma with brain metastases

MR Technique:
3.0 Tesla scanner (Siemens Verio) using a 18 channel head coil Image 1: axial T2 BLADE TRA DARK-FL (320 matrix, TR/TE 9000/133, scan time 4 min 32 sec, slice thickness 4 mm); Image 2: DWI 3SCAN TRACE with IPAT factor P2 (TR/TE 7000/100 ms, scan time 2 min 26 sec, slice thickness 4 mm); Image 3: axial T1-weighted FL2D TRA (320 matrix, TR/TE 250/2.5 ms, scan time 2 min 10 sec, slice thickness 4 mm); Image 4: axial T1-weighted FL2D TRA after administration of 0.1 mmol/kg of gadolinium chelate intravenous contrast (320 matrix, TR/TE 250/2.5 ms, scan time 2 min 10 sec, slice thickness 4 mm)

Imaging Findings:
Metastatic lesions involve the infra and supratentorium regions. Some of these lesions show increased T1 signal which can represent hemorrhage and/or high melanin content (image 3). Hemosiderin signal is present as well on the T2 weighted images (image 1&2). Vasogenic edema without evidence of midline shift is also evident (image1).
