Clinical History:
This 23-year-old male presented to the emergency room complaining of new-onset seizures. A subsequent MR examination revealed intra-axial large brain mass. This was found to be a low-grade glioma. This mass was biopsied and found to represent a low-grade oligo-astrocytoma.
Diagnosis:
Oligo-astrocytoma.
MR Technique:
Scans were acquired on a 3T Siemens TrioTim MR unit. (A) Sagittal pre-constrast spin echo T1-weighted (TR/TE 440/2.5 ms, scantime 2:26 min:sec) images were obtained as well as (B) axial turbo spin echo T2-weighted (TR/TE 4000/135 ms, scantime 1:46 min:sec) images, and (C) axial post-contrast spin echo T1-weighted images. Slice thickness was 4 mm in each instance.
Imaging Findings:
A large infiltrative intra-axial mass is present within the right frontal lobe, extending from the cortex, into the subcortical white matter, and across the midline through the anterior body of the corpus callosum. Surrounding vasogenic edema and mild local mass effect are present with minimal right-to-left midline shift seen superior to the corpus callosum. Notably, this mass demonstrate no appreciable enhancement.
